FabrianoinAcquarello is an annual international watercolour convention which takes place over 5 days in the town of Fabriano, Italy, origin of the world-famous paper.

Every May, over 80 countries, from every corner of the globe, each showcase 15 artists working in watercolour to represent their country. The result is a diverse and culturally rich exhibition, attended by over 1,500 artists.

Scotland has been represented by 15 different artists every year since 2017 and this exhibition at the UNIONgallery is comprised of Scotland’s paintings from 2020, 2021 and 2022 which were included virtually in the FabrianoinAcquarello exhibition but not seen in person.

As tradition, the Biennial invited the President Angus McEwan RWS AWI NWS RSW RGI IMWA SDWS, with his solo show “Transient” and all the 14 Members of the international Jury panel, all of them international Watercolour Masters, to exhibit their paintings in the “Jury Members Show” along the Biennial exhibition at Paper and Watermark Museum – Fabriano -Italy (July 16 > Semptember 30, 2022).

Furthermore, the “Fabriano Watercolor 2022” International Biennial Prize will be guesting the exhibition “Teatros” by the Spanish painter Pedro Cano, Fabriano’s honorary citizen and jury member in the Biennial Prize, 2012 edition.

In the Platinum Jubilee Year of their Patron, artists of the Royal Watercolour Society take a look back over the last 70 years. From the personal events of their own lives, to the greater goings on around the globe, this exhibition will serve as a reflection on this significant period in history, as well as a celebration of HM The Queen’s 70 years on the throne.

In response to the horrific events unfolding in Ukraine, we have launched an online art fundraiser with 100% of the proceeds going to the Disasters Emergency Committee’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

This exhibition is made up of a brilliant selection of paintings and original prints, all of which have been very generously donated by artists of the Royal Watercolour Society (RWS) and Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers (RE).

We hope that you enjoy this collection and find an artwork to treasure, while supporting such an important cause.

In this time when families are being torn apart, a time of such great courage in the face of death and destruction, art seems such a frivolity. Creativity, however, is one of the things that makes us human, it allows us to communicate and to celebrate our power in the face of oppression. We would like to make it a practical force for good and use it to raise desperately needed aid funding in this European humanitarian crisis.
