The Shapes of Water

The shapes in water are what watercolourists work in. Watercolour’s great complication is its transparency, challenging every aspect of the artist’s skill.
In their pursuit of capturing form, many artists build thick layers of waterbased paint, while others hint at shape with indications of colour applied in broad washes. For more than two hundred years the RWS has represented the very best in water-based media on paper and to this day artists continue to push at the limits of this unpredictable medium and its capabilities.

In this time when families are being torn apart, a time of such great courage in the face of death and destruction, art seems such a frivolity. Creativity, however, is one of the things that makes us human, it allows us to communicate and to celebrate our power in the face of oppression. We would like to make it a practical force for good and use it to raise desperately needed aid funding in this European humanitarian crisis.

Northern Ground: Summer Exhibition 2018

I have a couple of paintings in Northern Ground: Summer Exhibition 2018 at Gallagher and Turner.
