‘This exhibition of works by Members of the Royal Watercolour Society showcases paintings created in the very recent present alongside those at the earliest points in their career, and everything in between. ‘This latest display of artworks by the Royal Watercolour Society will delve into the challenges encountered by each artist during the Coronavirus lockdown. These extraordinary circumstances have meant that many artists have not been able to create in their usual media, and so for one time only we are excited to deliver an exhibition of Royal Watercolour Society artists, in all media.’

I have four works in the show. These are from a group of works that were languishing unfinished in my studio. Under a lockdown spring-clean I felt it was time to finish them.
On now 2 – 31 October 2020

Starts on Monday 27th July
27 July – 27 August 2020

The 194th Annual Exhibition of the Royal Scottish Academy is online only this year. Find it here.
‘The exhibition is available to view entirely online, with accompanying detailed commentary from exhibiting artists. The RSA Annual Exhibition is the most extensive exhibition of contemporary art and architecture in Scotland. Having been a mainstay of the academy’s calendar since its inception 193 years ago, the Annual Exhibition has evolved over the years, providing a platform for Scottish art alongside international artists, often including topical or political elements, to give an uncensored, independent voice to artists. ‘

I’m in Malta to launch the new book ‘Quinn in Malta’.
The book is edited and introduced by the late Peter Apap Bologna. He had been planning the book, its launch and the accompanying show for a year or more. Without Peter’s energy, enthusiasm and good humour the book would not have been completed. He encouraged me to paint new watercolours to show at the launch. On receipt of each new batch he was, as ever, hugely enthusiastic. He took especial delight in discovering my sketchbooks and preparatory drawings: these feature in the book and a good number have found their way to frames and are in the accompanying exhibition.
Peter passed away only two weeks ago. We miss him greatly. You can read an appreciation of him here: Peter Apap Bologna (1941-2019).
The launch takes place at St. Patrick’s School, don Bosco Street, Sliema on Saturday 9th November in the morning 11-1. All welcome.

My watercolour Calle Caballocalco, Mexico City is one of the exhibited paintings.
From their website: ‘Now in it’s 32nd year, the Sunday Times Watercolour competition is the UK’s most prestigious prize for contemporary watercolour painting. The competition brings together artists all across the UK, and at its heart celebrates and redefines the beauty and diversity of watercolour and water-based media. With approximately 100 works selected by a panel of leading figures from the art world, and a touring exhibition of the shortlisted works’
